Group 2:

Mpox is a zoonosis virus that was first identified in humans in 1970.  The virus includes symptoms such as a fever, rash, swollen lymph nodes, and headache.  The virus spreads through skin-to-skin contact or close contact with someone who has Mpox.  The virus usually affects countries within Africa, but a recent outbreak in 2022 involves the virus spreading to 110 countries including the United States and Western countries.  The most common cases came from males ages 18-44 in the 2022 outbreak.  Responding to Mpox can be difficult because of the varying regulations surrounding treatments and vaccinations in different countries.  There is a vaccine for Mpox and several vaccines for general pox viruses exist but many countries lack the availability of those vaccines.

Group 3:

MPox is a virus that originated in Africa and primarily affects Western Africa. The virus has never expanded past that region until recently. It spread into Europe and North America, leading it to be considered an outbreak of considerable concern. MPox spreads through direct contact, primarily from exposure to broken skin lesions. In the U.S. the most susceptible population was men who have sex with men. Unfortunately, this population experienced discrimination due to this statistic. Now knowing where the spread occurs, health officials sought to educate the community so that high-spread areas such as parties, bars, community events, etc. In New York, for instance, they set up a mobile clinic near these areas to vaccinate people and provide available care for Mpox if necessary.

Group 4:

MPox is an orthopox virus originating in Africa and primarily affects West Africa. It usually occurs in small, relatively containable outbreaks, but recently had a larger outbreak that occurred in New York majorly amongst people who are a part of the LGBTQ community, which was shocking to many researchers and scientists. The outbreak was recently deemed over after vaccinating 100,000 individuals and there being a 2 month period of little to no cases. Some common symptoms of mpox are similar to that of other orthopoxviruses and include fever, chills, fatigue, muscle aches, and rashes, with the most common set apart symptom being swollen lymph nodes.
